As reported by Jeff Levi.
Tampa, FL –- One thing most Tampa residents already knew: their bus system was slow and getting slower. But today, in a meeting with public officials, the city got a first clue as to what’s been behind the problem.
“It’s an iceberg.” said the head of Tampa Transport, “It had been eluding us, but we finally found it.”
Almost immediately, an angry citizen shouted, “How could you let this kind of thing happen!” and the official responded, “We didn’t ‘let it happen.’ Icebergs are slow. They sneak up on you over time, so you hardly notice it.”
When another person asked why it had taken so long to find the cause of the delays, the City Manager replied, “Well, it’s Tampa, you know. We didn’t think to check for icebergs first. It was, like, on the third page…”
An unaffiliated reporter, wondering if Federal support might be available to help rectify the situation, got this response: “We’ve been told we’re immediately behind Puerto Rico. So we’re probably on our own for the rest of this century.”
Long after the meeting adjourned, this reporter found the majority of residents still outside, impatiently waiting for the bus.
